Rochester, NY – The Syracuse Mets picked up nine hits, but could not plate enough runs, falling to the Rochester Red Wings, 5-3, on Saturday evening at ESL Ballpark.

Rochester (34-21) broke through in the bottom of the third inning. Seaver King launched a solo home run to center field, giving the Red Wings a 1-0 lead.

The Red Wings added on in the sixth. Andrew Pinckney singled and Joey Wiemer followed with a double before Robert Hassell III brought in a run with a groundout. Later in the inning, Trey Lipscomb added a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Rochester created more separation in the seventh. King singled and came around to score on a base hit by Yohandy Morales, who advanced to third on a fielding error. Soon after, Abimelec Ortiz lined an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game.

Syracuse (28-27) mounted a late rally in the eighth. Ryan Clifford and Andy Ibáñez opened the inning with singles before Yonny Hernández and Cristian Pache each drew walks, forcing home the Mets’ first run. A wild pitch later in the frame scored Ibáñez, trimming the deficit to 5-2.

In the ninth, Christian Arroyo launched a solo home run to left field, his fifth homer of the season, bringing Syracuse within two. However, Rochester retired the next two batters to secure the victory.

On the mound, Zach Peek started for Syracuse and tossed two scoreless innings. Jack Wenninger followed in bulk and was tabbed with the loss, allowed five runs, four earned, over four innings while striking out two. Matt Turner and Ofreidy Gómez combined for two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Syracuse wraps up its six-game series with Rochester on Sunday afternoon. RHP Jack Weisenburger is slated to start for the Mets opposite RHP Andry Lara. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
