The Toledo Mud Hens were defeated by the Rochester Red Wings 4-1 on Friday night at Innovative Field in Rochester New York.

Brant Hunter got the start in today’s game coming in with a 0-1 record on the year.

Both pitchers came out hot as both guys threw 1-2-3 innings in the first inning.

In the top of the second, it was again a 1-2-3 inning for the Hens as in the bottom of the inning the Red Wings were able to scramble a pair of guys to get on base but weren’t able to make anything of it as the score remained 0-0.

In the top of the third that changed however, thanks to a lead-off home run by Dillon Dingler as he belted one to center field for his second of the year breaking the tie and making it 1-0.

Both pitchers were dealing as both teams had a one-hitter through the middle of the fifth. That changed in the bottom of the fifth as the lead-off batter reached on a throwing error. The next batter was able to reach on a fielder's choice and the following batter was able to single to right field which put the Red Wings on the board to knot things up at one apiece. A mound visit was able to help Hurter as he went 1-2-3 after giving up the run which ended the inning and any further damage.

A pitching change in the bottom of the sixth put Trey Wingenter on the mound as he gave up a single and a home run to give the Red Wings the 3-1 lead. Later in the inning, the Red Wings were able to put aboard a runner as he later advanced 90 feet by a few throwing errors and was eventually able to score on a throwing error giving the Red Wings the 4-1 edge over the Hens.

In the top of the seventh the Hens had Justyn-Henry Malloy and Keston Hiura draw walks to put runners on first and second, but the offense wasn’t able to bring any of them home.

In the bottom of the seventh Wingenter was replaced by Andrew Vasquez as he gave up a lead-off walk but was able to get out of the inning with three straight outs.

An inning later Bryce Tassin replaced Vasquez on the mound and was able to throw a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, the Hens needed to scavenge three runs to stay alive but weren’t able to conduct anything as they fall to the Red Wings 4-1.

The Mud Hens and Red Wings meet again tomorrow afternoon with 1:05 pm being the scheduled first pitch.
