Valente, Mud Hounds claim victory over RailRiders

TOLEDO - The Toledo Mud Hounds defeated the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders 3-2 on Tuesday evening. It was the Mud Hens' third Hens and Hounds night at the ballpark, which is why the Mud Hens were under the "Mud Hounds" moniker.

John Valente played a big role in this one for Toledo, going 2-4 with two RBIs, including the go-ahead RBI single in the Bottom of the 7th inning. Jack Lopez picked up the other RBI of the evening with a single in the 2nd immediately following Valente's first RBI single of the evening. Josh Lester picked up the other hit for the Hounds, as well as scoring twice. Brendon Davis also touched home for Toledo following a walk.

Michael Pineda picked up the start for Toledo while on a rehab assignment. Pineda pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Sam Howard came in to finish the 4th inning, throwing one pitch, but inducing a double play. His line was 0.2 inning. Michael Mariot pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits, one strikeout, picking up the win in relief as well as a blown save. His record is now 6-1, and the blown save is his first. Miguel Del Pozo pitched 0.2 inning, striking out the only batter he faced, while the other out recorded was an out advancing. Del Pozo was credited with his 9th hold of the season. Derek Law continued his late-inning dominance, picking up his 13th save, pitching 1.0 inning, allowing two hits.

What's Next: The Toledo Mud Hens will host the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders in game two of the six game series on Wednesday, June 22 at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, with a 7:05 first pitch.
