The New Orleans Baby Cakes matched a franchise record with seven home runs in a 13-6 victory over the Salt Lake Bees on Saturday night.
New Orleans had hit seven home runs in a game three other times in club history, twice at Omaha and in 2012 against Oklahoma City, and rode the long ball en route to a season-high 13 runs.
Lewis Brinson started the hit parade with a three-run homer in the first inning. The 'Cakes jumped out a 7-0 lead after three innings. Salt Lake did strike back, getting a three-run home run from Jarred Walsh in the third as the Bees cut the deficit to 7-5 in the fifth inning.
The 'Cakes pulled away by adding three runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth. New Orleans pounded out 16 hits, falling two short of the season high which was set on Thursday. Each member of the lineup contributed at least one hit.
New Orleans had multi-home run games for Brinson and Peter O'Brien, while Jesus Sanchez, Austin Dean, and Rosell Herrera each went deep. Sanchez has homered three times in the last two games since joining the club in a trade.
Tyler Stevens pitched 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief for his first win for New Orleans. Salt Lake starter Yoel De Leon took the defeat in his Triple-A debut.
The 'Cakes have won three in a row and improved their record to 4-1 on the road trip.
The teams continue the four-game set on Sunday at 7:05 p.m. Central.
