Wilmington, DE - In their continuous effort to provide the best family entertainment and experience for fans, the Wilmington Blue Rocks partnered with Delmarva Power, an Exelon Company, to complete an LED conversion of the parking lot lights at Frawley Stadium. The new lights were just installed and provide unprecedented illumination of the Blue Rocks' parking areas.

The original Frawley Stadium parking lots had High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights for nighttime illumination. While HPS lights are common, they are quickly being replaced by LED lights, and for good reason: LED lights last longer, provide higher quality lighting, and are more energy efficient. In addition, the brighter and more efficient lights now provide added safety for fans when returning to their vehicles after a ballgame.
"The safety and security of our fans is and has always been our top priority," said Blue Rocks' managing partner Dave Heller. "These new lights make our parking lots safer, brighter, and easier to see - and reduce energy costs. That's a win-win for everyone."
"The Blue Rocks greatly appreciate the efforts of Delmarva Power in assisting us to provide a safer, more efficient, lighting system for our parking lots," said Blue Rocks general manager Andrew Layman. "Fan safety is of utmost importance to us and this project will only enhance the Blue Rocks fan experience at Frawley Stadium."
Delmarva Power provides energy in a safe and reliable manner to more than 500,000 customers in Delaware and Maryland in addition to 130,000 customers for natural gas delivery in Northern Delaware.
"Delmarva Power strives to provide our customers with safe, affordable and reliable energy," said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power Regional President. "The Blue Rocks' recent decision to install new parking lot lights supports those goals. The new lighting system will be a win for the team and their fans for many seasons."
The transition to the new LED lights is just one of many new upgrades to Frawley Stadium over the last three years. Main Street Baseball and the Blue Rocks continue to work with the Delaware Stadium Corporation to enhance Frawley Stadium in order to maintain its status as one of the premier ballparks in Minor League Baseball.
Prior to last season, the Blue Rocks and the Delaware Stadium Corporation partnered with M.J. Bradley Flooring and the architectural firm Ewing Cole to install new flooring on the concourse and in the restrooms to provide better and safer footing as fans trek around the concourse enjoying a ballgame. In 2015, the Delaware Stadium Corporation installed all new stadium seats, replacing the aluminum bleachers which had been in use in reserved seating areas. The Blue Rocks will also be adding new, energy-efficient LED field lights as soon as the season is over.
In 2015, Frawley Stadium won Best of the Ballparks for Advanced-A in the Ballpark Digest competition that featured every ballpark in that level of Minor League Baseball.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks return home on Friday, June 30, when they welcome the Salem Red Sox to town for a four-game homestand. For tickets, visit the team website at www.bluerocks.com or call the Box Office at 302-888-2583.
