The Wilmington Blue Rocks (15-15) defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones (11-17) 8-7 on Friday, May 12 at Frawley Stadium. The win marked the Rocks’ fourth in their last six games.

Although Wilmington ultimately came out with the win, it did not take long for the Cyclones to strike first. Stanley Consuegra, the No. 20 prospect within the Mets’ organization, got the scoring started in the top of the first with a two-run blast to deep left center.

Brooklyn sat comfortably with a 2-0 lead up until the bottom of the third, when Wilmington was able to jump on Cyclones’ starter Joander Suarez for six runs in the inning.

The scoring started with an Onix Vega single up the middle to score Jordy Barley and Viandel Pena. Jeremy De La Rosa followed suit in a big way, blasting a towering three-run home run to deep right center to give the Rocks a 5-2 lead. Leandro Emiliani put the cap on the inning with an RBI double that scored T.J. White and made it 6-2.

From there, the Cyclones began to chip away. In the top of the fourth, the Mets’ High-A affiliate scored a run on an RBI single by Omar De Los Santos, and he later came around to score on an RBI groundout by Joe Suozzi to cut the deficit to 6-4.

The score would remain there all the way until the top of the ninth, where the Cyclones were able to score three runs to take the lead. First, Blue Rocks’ closer Jack Sinclair fired a wild pitch that allowed De Los Santos to score his second run of the game. Kevin Kendall proceeded to hit a clutch RBI single up the middle that scored two and allowed Brooklyn to retake the lead, 7-6.

The Rocks were not done, however. In the bottom half of the ninth inning, Jared McKenzie came through with a two-out solo home run, his first of the season to tie the game up at seven. More magic was in store, as Leandro Emiliani later delivered a walk-off RBI single to complete the comeback.

Blue Rocks’ starter Kyle Luckham pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, while striking out two. De La Rosa led the Rocks’ lineup, going 4-5 at the plate with a homer and three RBI.

Wilmington will look to secure the series win against the Cyclones on Saturday evening. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
