June 29, 2013

For Immediate Release
June 29, 2013

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.-LHP Tyler Skaggs shut down the Sacramento River Cats on Saturday night, 1-0, falling just two outs from dealing the third nine-inning complete game shutout in Reno Aces franchise history.

Skaggs walked two of the first three batters he faced in the ninth, so the Aces brought on reliever Chaz Roe to finish the job. Roe recorded two strikeouts to end the game and complete the shutout for Reno, earning his fourth save of the season.

Skaggs, the D-backs No. 1 prospect, set a new career high in strikeouts in the game, with 13. His previous high was 12, which happened twice with Double-A Mobile. He allowed just four hits through 8.1 innings of work, while walking three, en route to his sixth win of the season for the Aces.

Earlier this season, RHP Zeke Spruill threw just the second nine-inning complete game shutout in Reno franchise history, shutting down Colorado Springs on June 9.

Reno's lone run on Saturday came on a Juan Rivera ground out in the top of the sixth to plate Tyler Bortnick.

Bortnick and Chris Owings each went 2-for-4 in the game.

The series wraps up Sunday at Raley Field, as the Aces will look to earn their third series victory of the season. RHP Charles Brewer (3-7, 5.56 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the River Cats will counter with RHP Bruce Billings (9-4, 4.46 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m., and all of the action can be heard live on KPLY 630 AM.

The Aces return home on Monday for a three-game series against the Salt Lake Bees. Tickets are on sale for all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
