Summary
Nolan Schubart and Maick Collado combined for eight hits and six RBI as the Akron RubberDucks dominated the Somerset Patriots 17-3 on Tuesday afternoon at 7 17 Credit Union Park.
Turning Point
After trading runs early in the game, Akron pulled ahead in the fourth. Alex Mooney doubled to open the inning before coming around to score on a single by Collado. Later in the inning, Jaison Chourio grounded out to second to score Collado to make it 3-2 RubberDucks.
Mound Presence
Rafe Schlesinger ran into some early trouble on Tuesday allowing runs in each of the first two innings. But the left-hander was able to quickly settle in to not allow a run the rest of his afternoon. In total Schlesinger tossed six innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six. Jack Jasiak struck out two in a scoreless inning. Zane Morehouse allowed a run in his inning of work. Adam Tulloch worked around a single and two walks to toss a scoreless ninth.
Duck Tales
After Somerset scored in the top of the first, Akron answered back in the bottom half. Ryan Cesarini led off the inning with a double before scoring two batters later on Bennett Thompson’s RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. After taking the lead in the fourth, the RubberDucks broke the game open in the sixth and seventh. Akron batted around and scored seven runs in each inning. The sixth inning scoring was highlighted by RBI singles by Schubart and Collado while the seven-run seventh was highlighted by a three-run double by Collado, an RBI double by Chourio and RBI single by Schubart.
