Isotopes Falter in 7-6 Extra-Inning Loss

El Paso, TX – The Chihuahuas’ Kervin Pichardo belted a game-tying home run in the ninth inning with two outs and then laid down a sac bunt in 11th that was thrown away by J.D. Hammer to allow the winning run to score and to give El Paso a 7-6-win Wednesday night at Southwest University Park.

Offensively, the Isotopes recorded 10 hits, four doubles and two homers. Carlos Pérez had three hits, a homer and three RBI while D.J. Peterson notched a double, homer and RBI. Sean Bouchard, Coco Montes and Tim Lopes each drove in a run.

The Chihuahuas took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Taylor Kohlwey RBI double. They added to their lead in the third on an Eguy Rosario RBI single.

However, in the top of the fourth, Pérez tied the game at 2-2 with his 23rd homer of the year, a two-run shot.

In the fifth, Peterson scorched his 11th homer of the year to give the Isotopes a 4-2 lead. The Chihuahuas would get a run closer in the sixth and tie it in the ninth with two outs to send the game to extras.

Albuquerque scored two runs in the top of the 10th on RBI doubles by Bouchard and Montes. The Chihuahuas matched the two-runs put up in the home half to send it to the 11th frame.

The Isotopes were held scoreless in the 11th while the winning run came around to score for El Paso.

Ashton Goudeau started the game and did not factor into the decision after tossing 5.0 innings and allowing two runs. Hammer was credited with the loss after pitching the final frame.

Topes Scope: - Albuquerque has lost two-straight extra-inning games and is now 2-4 on the year and 1-3 on the road. They are now 2-2 when playing 11 innings.

-The Isotopes are now 11-14 in one-run ballgames and 6-12 on the road. They have lost six one-run games on the road in-a-row.

-The Isotopes have allowed runs in the first inning in three-straight contests. In total, they’ve allowed 108 runs in the first inning—the most in all of MiLB.

-Albuquerque tallied its 17th blown save of the season, tied for the third-most in the PCL. It was also just their third loss after leading in the eighth innng.

-Perez has hit 10 homers and driven in 24 runs over his last 23 games. He also has a modest eight game hitting streak. During the streak he is averaging .441 (15x34) with three doubles, four homers and 10 RBI. Additionally, he recorded his 19th multi-RBI game, second on the team, and fifth three-hit game of the year.

-Peterson connected on his first homer since July 9 at Round Rock, 26 at-bats. For the year, he has eight homers on the road compared to three at Isotopes Park. He also recorded his 14th multi-hit game of the year and first two extra-base hit night since July 9 at Round Rock when he hit two homers.

-Goudeau has completed back-to-back outings of at least 5.0 innings for the first time since May 30, 2019 and June 5, 2019, with Double-A Hartford. He tossed 6.1 and 6.0 innings respectively.

-Bernard struck out three times in a game for just the fourth time this season.

-Over his last eight games, Montes is hitting .387 (13x34) with five homers and 17 RBI. Also extended his nine-game hitting streak.

-Bouchard registered his 18th multi-hit performance of the year and his second in three games.

On Deck**:** The Isotopes and Chihuahuas will play game three Thursday at 6:35 pm MT. Zach Neal is set to start for Albuquerque while El Paso is scheduled to send Ryan Weathers.
