CURVE, Pa. – Seth Beer drove in three, including a key game-tying RBI double in the seventh inning, but Altoona dropped their ninth straight game on Sunday afternoon. The 6-5 defeat completed a six-game sweep for the Akron RubberDucks over the Curve, the first time in franchise history that Altoona has lost all six games in a week-long series.

Akron jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning using an RBI single from Milan Tolentino and a three-run homer by Michael Ramirez off Anthony Solometo in the frame. Solometo retired the side in order in the first and third inning before hitting his hard pitch limit in the fourth following a groundout by Dayan Frias.

Altoona rallied back with a sacrifice fly from Beer in the third and a pair of runs in the fourth inning to make it 4-3. The ‘Ducks added a run in the fifth off Valentin Linarez before the Curve mounted their most important rally in the seventh. Linarez tossed 1.1 innings of relief before Isaac Mattson followed with 1.1 perfect relief frames.

Matt Fraizer, who drew three walks and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, began the seventh inning with a walk on five pitches and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Wyatt Hendrie. Jackson Glenn then picked up his third hit of the game to put men at second and third. Beer then stepped up with two outs and drove a ball to the warning track in left that eluded LF Christian Cairo and plated two runs to tie the game.

With the game tied at five in the ninth, Akron got a one out single from Yordys Vales and with two outs, Petey Halpin lifted a fly ball to center field that dropped between Altoona’s left fielder and centerfielder that allowed the go-ahead run to cross home. Nick Dombkowski took the loss, allowing the lone unearned run on two hits in three innings of work, striking out three batters.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Curve drew a pair of walks and had two on with one out when Kervin Pichardo bounced into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game, stranding the tying run at second.

The loss marked Altoona’s ninth consecutive defeat, its longest streak since losing 10 games in-a-row from May 24 – June 3, 2014. The longest losing-streak in franchise history is 11 games, which occurred in 2000.
