CURVE, Pa. – Kyle Nicolas, Braeden Ogle, and Brad Case combined to shutout the Hartford Yard Goats as Altoona’s offense exploded for 16 runs in the largest margin of victory in Curve history, 16-0, on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The contest marked the first shutout win of the season for the Curve and is the largest shutout win in the Curve’s 25 years. Altoona had 12 hits in the win, including four home runs and 10 walks drawn. Five batters recorded two hits in the win, as the Curve have totaled 35 runs on 33 hits in the series.

Andres Alvarez hit two home runs in the win. His first came in the fifth inning, a two-run shot to left field off Dylan Spain. Alvarez followed it up with a grand slam in the eighth inning off Blake Goldsberry to cap off a six-RBI performance. It is the fifth multi-homer game this season for a Curve batter and the second of Alvarez’s career.

The grand slam was set up for Alvarez after Evan Justice walked four of six consecutive batters in the eighth, allowing Lolo Sanchez to get the bases-loaded RBI. Liover Peguero hit his first triple of the season to open the eighth inning. He smashed a ball down the right field line off Justice and made it to third standing when the ball got away from Bret Boswell, leading Peguero to charge towards home before he lost his footing and crawled the final six feet across the plate for the little league homer.

Claudio Finol capped off a three-run fourth inning for the Curve with his second home run of the season, a two-run shot off former Pirates minor leaguer Nick Garcia. Mason Martin hit his eighth home run of the season and his fifth in his last 10 games. It was a three-run shot off Spain in the five-run fifth inning for the Curve.

Altoona scored its first two runs in the first inning off Garcia with back-to-back RBI-singles by Martin and Matt Gorski. Martin had four RBI for the second-straight game for Altoona in the two-hit performance.

Nicolas went five innings in the start for the Curve, walking two batters on three hits with six strikeouts. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning before allowing just three base runners over his final four innings. Ogle tossed two scoreless frames before Case closed it out with two innings of no-hit ball with three walks.

The Curve continue their series with the Hartford Yard Goats, Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, on Friday night with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch. RHP Tahnaj Thomas will open for the Curve and is opposed by RHP Case Williams for Hartford.
