PORTLAND, Maine - The Altoona Curve fell behind early and lost to the Portland Sea Dogs, 6-1, on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.

PORTLAND, Maine - The Altoona Curve fell behind early and lost to the Portland Sea Dogs, 6-1, on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.

The Curve (63-57) were held to just three hits through the first six innings before scratching out a run on four hits in the seventh, but the Sea Dogs (57-61) held them quiet the rest of the way.
Portland broke onto the scoreboard early against Curve starter Brandon Waddell (Loss, 2-3). Danny Bethea hit an RBI double in the second inning, and back-to-back run-scoring doubles by Michael Chavis and Jeremy Barfield opened the lead to 3-0 for the Sea Dogs in the third inning.
In the fifth, Josh Ockimey added an RBI single with two outs and Chad De La Guerra scored on a wild pitch to open the Portland lead to 5-0.
The Curve broke the shutout in the seventh inning. With two outs, Jerrick Suiter reached on a single and came around to score on a single by Wyatt Mathisen.
After four straight hits overall allowed by Portland starter Dedgar Jimenez (Win, 4-0) loaded the bases, he was replaced by Ty Buttry, who struck out Michael Suchy to escape the jam.
Portland quickly got that run back in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs, Jeremy Barfield doubled and came in to score on a single by Ockimey.
Waddell worked five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Tanner Anderson allowed one run over two relief innings with two strikeouts. Alex McRae pitched a scoreless eighth.
The Curve and Sea Dogs conclude the three-game series on Thursday afternoon. Right-hander Mitch Keller (0-0, 3.00) will start on the mound for Altoona, with lefty Trey Ball (5-10, 5.83) on the hill for Portland. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Hadlock Field.
