Gavin Dominates Pitching 7 Hitless Innings

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 1-0 on Saturday night against the Rome Braves.

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 1-0 on Saturday night against the Rome Braves.

The game started off as a pitchers' duel between John Gavin for the GreenJackets and Jasseel De La Cruz for the Braves. Gavin would outlast De La Cruz pitching seven hitless innings for the GreenJackets. He would strikeout nine Braves while only walking one batter. The outing now lowers Gavin's ERA to 1.72 for the season.
Gavin would be pulled at the start of the eighth inning after throwing 92 pitches. Augusta would then turn to Franklin Van Gurp who pitched three scoreless innings. He would go on to get his fourth victory of the season.
With the score tied at zero in the 10th inning, Manuel Geraldo hit a walk-off single to center field to score Logan Baldwin from second base.
The win by the GreenJackets improves their record to 2-1 on the second half. This is the first series win for Augusta in the second half.
The GreenJackets will now travel to Hickory for a three game series with the Crawdads. First pitch will be at 5:00 pm tomorrow.
