Augusta Takes Game One

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 6-1 against the Rome Braves on Saturday night.

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 6-1 against the Rome Braves on Saturday night.

The GreenJackets got out to a quick start with a two-run home run from Jacob Gonzalez in the bottom of the first inning. This was eighth home run for Gonzalez this season. Augusta would be held without another run until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Jeffry Parra hit a solo home run over the left field wall. With the score 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the GreenJackets would put the Braves away with three run inning. RBIs from Parra, Shane Matheny, and Nick Hill made life easier for the closer Camilo Doval in the top of the ninth inning.
On the mound, John Gavin delivered another great performance against the Braves. He went five innings, giving up four hits and just one run. Gavin would strikeout nine Braves batters and earn his fourth win of the season. John Russell would come on for a flawless two innings, only giving up one hit and earning his first hold of the season. Then Camilo Doval finished up the final two innings, earning his fourth save of the season.
The GreenJackets now have won five out of their last seven games. They will be back in action tomorrow for game two against the Braves at 5:05 pm.
