Riggleman, rest of Bats staff returns for 2014

January 6, 2014

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats announced Monday that the field staff from its 2013 team, including former 12-year Major League veteran manager Jim Riggleman, will return for the 2014 season. Riggleman will be joined again by pitching coach Ted Power and hitting coach Tony Jaramillo.

For Riggleman, 61, 2014 will be his third season in the Cincinnati Reds minor league system and his second at the helm of its top affiliate in Louisville. The Bats went 69-75 in his first year and in 2014 will look for their first winning season since going 73-71 in 2011. Riggleman spent the 2012 season as manager of the Reds' Double-A affiliate, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, and went 68-70.

Power, 58, returns to Louisville for his ninth straight season as pitching coach with the Bats. In 2013, his Bats pitching staff tied for fifth in the International League with its 3.75 ERA and tied for first with its 13 shutouts. In recent years, Power has coached current Reds arms like Johnny Cueto, Homer Bailey and Tony Cingrani while with the Bats.

Jaramillo, 35, will serve in his second season in Louisville and seventh overall as a hitting coach in the Reds organization. This will be Jaramillo's first time coaching with the same team for consecutive years since joining the Reds' minor league staff. He previously coached in Billings (2008), Dayton (2009), Lynchburg (2010), Bakersfield (2011) and Pensacola (2012).

The Bats start 2014 with an exhibition game against the Reds at Louisville Slugger Field on March 29 before opening the 2014 regular season campaign on the road in Toledo on Friday, April 4. The Bats begin their home schedule on Thursday, April 10 against Columbus with the first of 11 $1 Budweiser happy hours of the year.
