Brooklyn, NY (June 26, 2022) – The Cyclones won a thriller on Sunday afternoon defeating the Jersey Shore BlueClaws by the score of 3-2 at Maimonides Park. Matt O’Neill had a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to score Jose Peroza with the game-winning run to give Brooklyn a walk-off win.

The ‘Clones took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Nic Gaddis had an RBI double, which missed being a two-run homer by a matter of inches, to score Matt Rudick with the game’s first run.

The lead grew to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Brooklyn put a pair of runners in scoring position and a wild pitch from Jersey Shore starter Kyle Glogoski allowed JT Schwartz to score for the Cyclones.

RHP Luis Moreno made the start for Brooklyn and cruised through the first four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth. Jared Carr had a nine-pitch at-bat to start the frame, which resulted in a walk, and Karl Ellison followed with a single to put a pair of runners aboard with one out. Moreno then uncorked a wild pitch to put runners at second and third before striking out Freylin Minyety for out number two. With Carlos De La Cruz batting, Moreno was called for a balk – allowing Carr to score – and then the Jersey Shore first baseman roped a double into the left-field corner to tie the game at 2-2.

That’s how it would stay for a while, as both bullpens shined on Sunday afternoon. But in the ninth inning, Jersey Shore had a golden opportunity to take the lead.

Johan Rojas worked a walk to start things for the BlueClaws and back-to-back singles from D.J. Stewart and Casey Martin loaded the bases with nobody out. Jared Carr was next up for the ‘Claws and he lofted a fly ball to shallow right field. Joe Suozzi came charging in to make the catch and came up firing with a laser beam of a throw to the plate to cut down Rojas and keep things tied at 2-2. Justin Courtney then struck out Baron Radclick to end the threat, stranding the go-ahead run at third.

In the bottom of the ninth, Brooklyn would walk-off as winners. Jaylen Palmer singled to start the frame and Jose Peroza followed with a fielder’s choice with Palmer out at second for the first out of the game. Justin Guerrera was then hit by a pitch and Matt Rudick reached on another fielder’s choice that put runners on the corners with two away. Matt O’Neill sent the Cyclones fans home happy when he stroked a 1-1 offering into right field to plate Peroza and give Brooklyn a 3-2 win.

The Cyclones wore special blue and gold jerseys as part of Stand with Ukraine day at the ballpark. The game-worn uniforms are available for auction with all proceeds to benefit humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
