Chris Newell - Manager

  • Enters his fourth season with the Mets organization and second with the Brooklyn Cyclones.

  • Served as the bench coach with the Cyclones in 2021...Was the manager of the Complex League Mets in 2021.

  • Previously served as manager of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers in the United Shore Professional Baseball League from 2016-2019.

  • Guided the Beavers to consecutive Championships in 2017 & 2018...Was named Manager of the Year in 2016, 2017 & 2018.

  • Was a scout with Tampa Bay (1999-2005) and with the New York Yankees (2006- 2016).

  • Managed the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League in 2003.

  • Founded “The Player’s Edge” in December, 1999...This training academy has had more than 200 players go on to play in college and 54 get drafted or sign professional contracts...Worked with Jake Cronenworth and DJ LeMahieu as well.

  • Played parts of two years in the Independent Big South League, Heartland League and Frontier League.

  • Served as Oakland University Associate Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator (2002-2005).

  • Chris resides in Clarkston, MI...He has one daughter, Peyton.


Richie Benes - Hitting Coach

  • Begins his fifth season in the organization and his second in Brooklyn...He served as a coach with the Cyclones throughout the playoffs during their Championship season in 2019.
  • Joined the organization in April of 2019 as a hitting coach at the Dominican Academy...Served as a hitting coach at the Complex League in 2021.
  • Was the hitting and infield coach at Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, NJ...Also coached at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT and Monroe College in New Rochelle, NY.
  • Served as the hitting coach for the Danbury Westerners, a member of the NECBL.
  • Originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 23rd round of the 1996 First Year Player Draft from Christopher Columbus High in The Bronx, NY.
  • Played two years in the minors in the Royals system...Also played in Independent leagues including the Northeast League, Texas-Louisiana League, American Association and the Can-Am League.
  • Richie, 45, resides in The Bronx.

Victor Ramos - Pitching Coach

  • Begins his fourth year with the Mets and his first in Brooklyn.
  • Spent the 2022 as the Pitching Coach with the St. Lucie Mets after serving in the same role with the DSL Mets in 2021...Joined the Mets organization in 2019 as a Player Development Associate for St. Lucie, where he headed the team’s video operations.
  • Was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 35th round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft as a catcher, but converted to pitcher in 2004...Played in the Cubs organization in 2004 and was selected in the 2006 Minor League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft by the Red Sox...Had Tommy John Surgery that ended his career.
  • Was a member of the Puero Rico staff in the last three World Baseball Classics...Is the pitching coach for Criollos de Caguas in the Puerto Rico Winter League.

John Vaughn - Bench Coach

  • Is in his third season with the Mets and first as Brooklyn’s bench coach.
  • Spent the previous two seasons in Binghamton as a player development associate in 2021 and as a minor league analytics associate in 2022.
  • Earned his master’s in Sport Management from St. John’s University in 2020 while volunteering with the baseball team.
  • Worked at MLB in their Pitchcast/Statcast department in 2019 and 2020.
  • Began his career in baseball as the clubhouse manager for the New Britain Rock Cats from 2010-13.
  • Was a four-year starter and two-time captain of the baseball team at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA.
  • John, 35, resides in New York City with his wife, Alaina, and their son, Grady

Juan Loyo - Development Coach

  • Enters his first season as Brooklyn’s development coach...Was a member of the 2022 Brooklyn Cyclones as a catcher...Hit .308 (4-13) in six games with the ‘Clones.
  • Joins Yunir Garcia, Bobby Malek, Sean Ratliff and Luis Rivera on the list of those who have played with and coached / managed the Cyclones
  • Compiled a career .263 (91-346) batting average over 124 games in the Mets farm system from 2018-22...Appeared in at least one game at every level.
  • Signed with the Mets as a minor league free agent on June 2, 2018.
  • Loyo, 24, resides in Araure, Venezuela.
