Bisons score five in ninth to walk off against Norfolk 7-6 on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – Brett Bateman scored on a wild pitch to help the Buffalo Bisons walk off the Norfolk Tides 7-6 on Wednesday afternoon at Sahlen Field. It was Bateman’s first game with Buffalo after being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Kevin Gausman.
After recording four hits in yesterday’s 10-6 loss to the Tides, Daz Cameron had another multi-hit game. Cameron singled in the bottom of the second inning, doubled in the fourth and singled in the ninth, while scoring a run in the second and ninth.
Josh Kasevich also finished with a multi-hit game, as he singled in the second and third innings while scoring a run in the ninth. Charles McAdoo also finished with a pair of singles in the first and ninth.
Norfolk got the early lead in the top of the first inning. José Barrero hit a sac-fly to center field to drive in Enrique Brafield Jr.
Buffalo knotted things up 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning. Sean Keys singled to center field to score McAdoo from second base.
The Bisons snapped the tie in the second. Josh Rivera hit a sac-fly to center field to allow Daz Cameron to cross home plate.
However, the lead didn’t last long as the Tides tied the game up 2-2 in the third inning. Barrero hit his second sac-fly of the game, but to left field.
After two scoreless innings from both teams, Norfolk broke the tie in the sixth. Sam Huff hit an RBI single to left field. Jud Fabian then doubled to left field to drive in Payton Eeles, giving the Tides a 4-2 advantage. Soon after Fabian’s RBI double, Reed Trimble hit a two-run single to right-center field.
The Bisons mounted a comeback in the ninth. Ismael Munguia, who pinch hit for C.J. Stubbs, doubled to left field to drive in Cameron and Kasevich, who scored on a throwing error from Bradfield Jr. McAdoo then hit a two-RBI single to right field to tie the game up 6-6 with two outs on the board. With the bases loaded, Cam Sanders threw the wild pitch that allowed Bateman to score.
Buffalo and Norfolk are scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Thursday at Sahlen Field. The series is tied 1-1. Spencer Arighetti will start on the mound for the Bisons. It will be Arighetti’s first appearance in Buffalo, after Toronto acquired him in a trade with the Houston Astros for Daulton Varsho.
