Stanley named Jays Bullpen Coach
The Blue Jays announced Saturday that 2013 Buffalo Bisons pitching coach Bob Stanley will take over as Toronto's bullpen coach for the upcoming season. Pat Hentgen held that position last season, but has been reassigned within the organization so that he can attend to some family health issues.
With Stanley at the helm of the Bisons pitching staff in 2013, the team posted a 4.16 ERA. The staff also led the International League in fewest walks (435) and finished second in the circuit in complete games (6). Stanley began his tenure with the Blue Jays at Triple-A Las Vegas in 2012 and his 51s staff led the Pacific Coast League in fewest walks that year, as well. Stanley has also coached in the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets minor league systems.
Stanley played 13 years in the major leagues, all of them with the Boston Red Sox. He was a 1st round pick of the Red Sox in 1974 and was Boston's all-time saves leader with 132 until Jonathan Papelbon passed him during the 2009 season. Overall, Stanley was 115-97 with a 3.64ERA and 693 strikeouts in 637 career games. He was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2000.
