Appleton, WI – Two three-run frames fueled a 7-4 Cedar Rapids Kernels win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday afternoon. Eight of nine Kernels collected a hit, all nine reached base and each hitter either scored a run or drove one in. The Kernels improve to 57-35, 14-12 in the second half.

Cedar Rapids started things out with a bang in the first as Kyler Fedko and Seth Gray launched back-to-back solo shots to lead off the game. Aaron Sabato followed with a blistering double into left, scoring one batter later as Yunior Severino laced a single through the right side.

After the first four batters reached, the Timber Rattlers starter settled in to retire 12 straight as Wisconsin chipped away with two in the first and one in the second to draw things even at three.

Matthew Swain took over in the third inning and tossed 2.2 scoreless, allowing just two hits and walking none with one strikeout to pick up the win.

The Kernels broke the batters-retired streak with a Dylan Neuse single to lead off the fifth, with Charles Mack promptly blasting an RBI double to right for the 4-3 lead.

Miguel Rodriguez worked 1.2 scoreless and struck out three, working around a pair of walks to earn a hold out of the pen’.

Severino walked to open the sixth, then Wander Javier singled to extend his on-base streak to 24 games. Jake Rucker cracked an RBI double off the left field wall, Jeferson Morales brought Javier home with a sac fly then Neuse capped off the three-run frame with a run-scoring groundout.

Wisconsin would get a run back to cut their deficit down to three in the seventh, but the Kernels’ bullpen held fast the rest of the way. Derek Molina fired a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn the save on his 25th birthday.

Game three of the series is set for Thursday evening at 6:40 p.m. CT in Appleton.
