CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Cedar Rapids Kernels, in conjunction with the Minnesota Twins, have announced the Kernels Field Staff for the 2020 season.
Brian Dinkelman returns as the Kernels manager for the 2020 season. It is his second season as manager and fifth season with the Kernels. Dinkelman led the 2019 Kernels to the Western Division Championship Series and finished with a 78-62 record during the regular season. It was the team's sixth consecutive appearance in the league's semifinals. Cedar Rapids currently has a city-record seven-year postseason streak. Dinkelman served as the hitting coach for the Kernels during three seasons from 2016-2018. He made his coaching debut in 2015 as the hitting coach for the GCL Twins. Dinkelman was drafted by the Twins in the eighth round of the 2006 MLB draft out of McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. He played eight seasons in the Twins system and was named a 2007 Midwest League All-Star while with the Beloit Snappers. Dinkelman played in 23 Major League games with the Twins in 2011, batting .301 with four RBI.
Bryce Berg joins the team as hitting coach. It is his first season with the Kernels and first season with the organization. Berg is a 2011 graduate of Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll, Iowa where he was named first team all-state. He played two seasons at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. He then played two seasons at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D. Berg recently completed his fourth season as a coach at Concordia University in Seward, Neb. where he worked closely with hitters and catchers.
Peter Larson joins the staff as a pitching coach. It is his first season with the Kernels. In 2019, he held the title of rehab pitching coach as a Twins Minor League instructor. Prior to joining the Twins organization, Larson was the pitching coach for Fordham University, University of Albany, and Siena College. He played professionally in the Can-Am League and North American League in 2011. Larson pitched collegiately at Ferrum College in Ferrum, Va.
Calvin Maduro joins the staff as a pitching coach. It is his first season with the Kernels and first season in the Twins system. Maduro previously was a professional scout for the Baltimore Orioles organization. Maduro made a total of 68 appearances, including 39 starts, over five MLB seasons with the Phillies (1996-1997) and Orioles (2000-2002). He finished his MLB career with a 10-19 record and 5.78 ERA. Following his playing career, Maduro was a pitching coach in the Orioles system from 2006-2010.
Luis Rodriguez returns as a Kernels coach for the second straight season. It is his third season overall as a coach with the Twins after serving as the hitting coach for the GCL Twins in 2018. Rodriguez played in 407 career Major League games with the Twins (2005-2007), Padres (2008-2009), and Mariners (2011). He posted a career average of .238 with 10 home runs and 80 RBI. Rodriguez played with Quad Cities of the Midwest League in both 1999 and 2000. He was originally signed by the Minnesota Twins in 1997 and is a native of San Carlos, Venezuela.
Tyler Blair returns as the athletic trainer for his second season with the Kernels. He spent the 2018 season in the same capacity with the Elizabethton Twins.
Colin Feikles is the strength & conditioning coach in his first season with the Kernels. Feikles joins the Twins from the Boston Red Sox where he most recently served as a strength coach with the Lowell Spinners. He was named the 2019 New York-Penn League Strength and Conditioning coach of the year. Prior to his time with Boston, Feikles had stops at Texas Christian University, Tiffin University, and Gannon University.  
Mason Steinberger joins the Kernels as the clubhouse manager. It is his first season with the team.
