KERNELS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH WISCONSIN

Cedar Rapids, IA – Cedar Rapids split a doubleheader with Wisconsin Saturday night, rallying for an 8-3 win after dropping the opener 6-2. The first game was the completion of Friday’s weather-suspended game.

The Kernels trailed the nightcap 3-1 in the second inning when Seth Gray tied the score with one swing of the bat. Gray’s towering home run over the right field fence was his 13th round-tripper of the season.

Cedar Rapids scored four runs in the fourth inning to take control. Jake Rucker and Pat Winkel hit back-to-back doubles after Dalton Shuffield and Mikey Perez started the frame with consecutive walks. Wander Javier also drove in a run in the sixth inning.

In the completion of Friday night’s rain-suspended game, Cedar Rapids scored its only runs in the fifth inning on Jake Rucker’s double to left field. The Kernels trailed 5-0 when play was halted in the middle of the fourth inning.

Cedar Rapids has now won four of the first five games against the Timber Rattlers, with the sixth and final game of the series set to start at 2:05 p.m. tomorrow at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Stadium.

The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a 2022 Cedar Rapids Kernels team photo, thanks to Copyworks. During the game, fans can play Baseball Bingo -- presented by Ox Yoke Inn – for a chance to win the grand prize of a special Amana weekend getaway package that will be rewarded at the end of the season. It’s a Kids Eat Free Sunday, presented by Great Clips. All kids 12 and under will get a voucher for a FREE hot dog, popcorn and drink. Following the game, fans can play catch in the outfield and get autographs from Kernels players.
