Prato homers, Cedar Rapids falls to River Bandits

Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids Kernels managed just three hits – one being an Anthony Prato solo home run in the sixth – as they fell 6-2 to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Friday evening. A pair of two-run home runs in the first and second innings put QC up early while the Kernels couldn’t solve River Bandits starter Charlie Neuweiler, falling to 17-8 on the season.

Quad Cities added a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth to go up 5-0, then Prato’s solo shot in the sixth cut the deficit to four. Jair Camargo reached on a fielder’s choice in the seventh then scored on a Jeferson Morales double to left, but the latter was thrown out trying stretch it into a triple to eliminate the Kernels’ threat.

The River Bandits tacked on one more in the eighth and sealed things off with a scoreless final two frames.

Game five featuring postgame fireworks is set for Saturday with a 6:35 p.m. CT first pitch at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
