Curve lose late lead again in loss to Baysox

Baysox tie score in eighth, walk off in ninth for second straight game

BOWIE, Md. - For the second straight night, the Altoona Curve surrendered a lead in the eighth and lost to the Bowie Baysox on a walk-off, 5-4, on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium.

The Curve (49-47) have now given up a in the seventh inning or later seven times in 13 games against the Baysox (52-46) and dropped to 2-11 against them this year. Overall, the Curve bullpen has been charged with six blown saves in the last 10 games.
The Baysox scored the winning run on a two-out single by Garabez Rosa against Yeudy Garcia (Loss, 3-6), who allowed a walk and two hits in the ninth.
With Altoona in front 5-4 entering the ninth, Garcia hit D.J. Stewart with a pitch with two outs, and Stewart moved to second on wild pitch. Aderlin Rodriguez brought the runner in with a game-tying double.
The Curve pulled ahead 4-0 in the first inning. Jerrick Suiter drove a two-run double and Micheal Suchy hit a two-run homer with two outs later in the inning.
Bowie answered with a two-run home run by Austin Hays in the bottom of the first and added a run on a double by Hays in the third to close within a run.
Anderson Feliz scored in the fourth inning when Hays dropped a fly ball in center field off the bat of Pablo Reyes with two outs, extending the Curve lead to 5-3.
The Baysox reeled back within a run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Austin Wynns.
Curve starter Tanner Anderson allowed four runs (three earned) over five innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Sean Keselica worked through the sixth and seventh without allowing a run. Garcia pitched 1.2 innings and allowed three hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.
Bowie starter Lucas Long allowed a season-high five runs (four earned) on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts over seven innings. Scott McGough struck out four in two scoreless innings.
Edwin Espinal went 0-for-4, snapping his league-best on-base streak at 23 games.
With the loss, the Curve fell two games behind the Baysox in the E.L. West standings, sitting in a second-place tie with the Erie SeaWolves.
The Baysox also tied the score in the eighth inning on Thursday on a steal of home by Stewart and won on bases-loaded walk in the ninth worked by Erick Salcedo. Friday night marked the fourth walk-off win by the Baysox against the Curve this year.
The Curve and Baysox play the third of the four-game series on Saturday night in Bowie. Lefty Cody Dickson (1-2, 7.47) will be on the hill for Altoona, opposed by Bowie left-hander Tanner Scott (0-1, 2.05). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium.
