Former Cedar Rapids RHP David Festa has been selected to pitch in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
Currently listed as the Twins' number 10 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Festa has been chosen to compete on the American League team against the National League team as part of a seven-inning contest.
Last season, Festa made 16 regular-season appearances for the Kernels following his promotion from single-A Fort Myers on May 16. The right-hander held a record of 7-3 with a 2.71 ERA in his 79.2 innings of work on the mound, helping to aid Cedar Rapids to a Midwest League West first-half title. The former 13th-round selection out of Seton Hall notched 75 strikeouts compared to 28 walks, and opposing batters hit just .233 off the starter.
Festa became the ace of the Kernels in 2022 and was handed the ball in game one of the West Divison Finals in the Midwest League postseason. The right-hander was up for the task and delivered six scoreless innings on the mound allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out ten South Bend batters.
In the offseason, Festa was promoted to double-A Wichita, where he has spent the entirety of the 2023 season. With the Wind Surge, the former Kernel holds a 2-2 record with a 5.12 ERA across 51.0 innings in his 12 starts on the mound.
The futures game takes place on Saturday, July 8, at 6 p.m. CT at Seattle’s T-Molible Park as part of MLB All-Star Weekend. Festa is the Twins' only representative in the contest.
