FRISCO, Texas (August 4, 2022) – Powered by a four-run inning, the Frisco RoughRiders leaned on strong pitching to nail shut their fifth consecutive win with a 4-3 victory over the Amarillo Sod Poodles at Riders Field Thursday night. Frisco starter Tim Brennan threw a season-most six innings and struck out a pair of batters to log his longest appearance since August 2019.

Box score

Paralleled with a Midland win, the Riders (18-12, 54-45) remain two games out of first in the Texas League South with their fifth consecutive win and their third of the series against the Sod Poodles (15-15, 47-52).

Third baseman Justin Foscue drilled his seventh home run of the season on a three-run shot in the bottom of the third inning off Amarillo starter Slade Cecconi (5-4) to help eliminate an early 2-0 deficit. Foscue finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles coupled with his go-ahead home run.

After Brennan (4-3) departed Thursday’s game, the 4th through the 8th ran scoreless due to a strong bullpen effort from Justin Slaten, Marc Church, and Fer Ozuna. Slaten loaded the bases but got an inning-ending strikeout to strand the bases full in the top of the 7th. Church recorded a strikeout in the 8th, setting up Ozuna for his ninth save of the season.

The series continues Friday night with Jack Leiter (3-8, 5.80 ERA) taking the mound against Amarillo LHP Blake Walston (4-3, 5.77 ERA) with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Friday night is also Whataburger Night at Riders Field, with post-game fireworks sponsored by Whataburger. Fans arriving early can arrive a customized Whataburger hand-held fan for Friday’s game.
