David Perez promoted to Frisco
FRISCO, TEXAS (April 27, 2016) - The Texas Rangers announced Thursday that right-handed pitcher David Perez has been promoted to the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, from Class A-Advanced High Desert.
Perez, 23, appeared in four games out of the bullpen for the Mavericks prior to his promotion, going 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and one save in 12 innings of work. The right-hander has walked just three, while striking out 10 so far this season.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Perez is in his seventh season as a professional, after signing with the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent in August of 2009. Last year was his first season with full-season clubs, as he split the year between Class-A Hickory and High Desert. Perez made 16 appearances with each club, combining for a 6-4 record and a 3.21 ERA, along with three saves.
In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Cody Buckel has been released. The right-hander had no record and an ERA of 0.00 in four relief outings this season, and issued seven walks in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Perez will be on the active roster Thursday night, as the Riders aim for a four-game sweep of the San Antonio Missions at Dr Pepper Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tickets for Thursday's game, and the remaining four games on the current homestand, are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at [email protected], over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
