Frisco slugs four homers, drops Northwest Arkansas

FRISCO, Texas (June 11, 2021) – The Frisco RoughRiders downed the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 10-7 on Friday night from Riders Field.

The offensive showcase started early for Frisco (20-13) when Bubba Thompson led off the home half of the first with a home run to center. Josh Stowers later followed with a two-run shot in the first and the Riders were out in front 3-0 after an inning.

In the top of the fifth, the Naturals (15-16) found the board on a Rudy Martin RBI single, drawing within 3-1, before the Rides scored a pair of runs on a throwing error in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-1.

Northwest Arkansas tied the game with two-run home runs from Travis Jones in the sixth and Dairon Blanco in the seventh, but Anderson Tejeda, who made his Riders debut on Friday night, crushed a go-ahead solo shot in the bottom of the seventh to give Frisco a 6-5 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth, J.P. Martinez hammered a grand slam for Frisco to put the game out of reach at 10-5. The Naturals added a couple of runs in the top of the ninth, but were turned away with the bases loaded by reliever Cole Uvila.

Scott Engler (1-0) took home the win, throwing 1.2 perfect innings with four strikeouts while Andres Nunez (4-1) was handed the loss for Northwest Arkansas.

The Riders continue their six-game series on Saturday night against the Naturals at 7:05 pm for game five. LHP Jake Latz (1-0, 2.63) goes for the RoughRiders against LHP Marcelo Martinez (1-2, 5.87) for Northwest Arkansas.
