FRISCO, Texas (May 6, 2021) - Bubba Thompson homered twice and knocked in a career-best five runs for the Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday night in a 7-0 thrashing of the Midland Rockhounds.

Thompson started the scoring in the fourth inning for Frisco (3-0) with a solo home run to right field off of Midland (0-3) starter Ty Damron (0-1). It was his first home run since August 27, 2019, when he also hit two homers for the High-A Down East Wood Ducks.

In the fifth, Thompson stuck again with a three-run double to right center, scoring Josh Stowers, Melvin Novoa and Steele Walker. A batter later, Davis Wendzel blasted a two-run home run to left, giving the Riders a 6-0 lead.

The centerfielder was not done yet, though, as Thompson hammered a 1-1 pitch in the seventh to left center for his second solo homer of the day, putting the Riders out in front 7-0.

On the mound, Frisco dominated. Tyler Phillips started and threw four strong innings, striking out five. Hever Bueno (1-0) earned the win out of the bullpen with 1.1 innings and Joe Gatto and Fernery Ozuna combined to throw the last 3.2 frames to complete the shutout.

The RoughRiders are back on Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the RockHounds for game four of the six-game series. It's Fireworks Friday at Riders Field, so get your tickets now at RidersBaseball.com or call 972.334.1993.

About the RoughRiders

The Frisco RoughRiders are the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The team was founded in 2003 and has finished first among all Double-A franchises in attendance in each of the last 15 seasons (2005-2019). In August 2014, the RoughRiders were purchased by an ownership group led by Chuck Greenberg. Since then, the new ownership group, together with the City of Frisco, has spearheaded numerous major franchise enhancements, investing over $8 million in a wide array of facility upgrades and improvements, including a state-of-the-art HD video board, sound system, Bull Moose Saloon, InTouch Grille, Riders Outpost Team Store and the world's largest water feature in a sports facility, the massive Lazy River. These enhancements earned the Riders and the City of Frisco Ballpark Digest's prestigious "Best Ballpark Renovation" award for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016). More than 160 former RoughRiders players have gone on to play Major League Baseball. For more information on the Frisco RoughRiders, please visit RidersBaseball.com or contact [email protected].
