Frisco drops game against Amarillo, playoff race heats up

Riders remain in second place by 0.5 games even after loss

FRISCO, Texas (September 17, 2021) – The Frisco RoughRiders fell to the Amarillo Sod Poodles 6-1 on Friday night from HODGETOWN.

The Sod Poodles (58-60) jumped on the board first in the fourth inning when Buddy Kennedy homered to make it 1-0. Dominic Canzone then added on with an RBI double, Ryder Jones put up a run on a fielder's choice and Ben DeLuzio drove in a tally on a groundout to increase the lead to 4-0.

Stone Garrett then went deep for solo homers in both the fifth and seventh innings to put Amarillo up 6-0.

The RoughRiders (64-54) found the scoreboard in the eighth inning on a Jax Biggers sacrifice fly, pulling to 6-1, but they could not fight their way back.

Justin Lewis (2-1) earned the win in relief, ceding just a run for the Sod Poodles.

In his start, Tim Brennan (0-3) took the loss for Frisco, allowing four runs over his four innings.

In the playoff picture, both Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas were handed losses on Friday evening, meaning the RoughRiders are still in the second playoff spot by 0.5 games with two games remaining in the regular season. Frisco now controls their own destiny toward their first postseason birth since 2014, with their magic number down to two.

The RoughRiders and Sod Poodles meet for game six of the series on Saturday, September 17th at 7:05 p.m. RHP Ronny Henriquez (4-4, 5.04) starts for the RoughRiders against RHP Ryne Nelson (3-3, 3.60)
