San Antonio erases deficit in comeback win to start series

FRISCO, Texas (September 7, 2021) – The Frisco RoughRiders led early, but ultimately fell in a 12-7 loss to the San Antonio Missions on Tuesday night from Riders Field.

The RoughRiders (59-48) found the scoreboard first in the first inning when Davis Wendzel singled home a run to make it 1-0.

The Missions (52-57) quickly struck back with a two-run home run by Agustin Ruiz in the second and padded on with on a Esteury Ruiz, third-inning solo blast, putting themselves up 3-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Riders exploded for five runs when Jax Biggers blasted a three-run shot, his fourth long ball of the year, and Diosbel Arias added a two-run single to vault Frisco to a 6-3 advantage.

San Antonio cut into the deficit in the fifth with a two-run double from Juan Fernandez, drawing within 6-5.

After Melvin Novoa cracked an RBI single in the seventh, the Missions came back in the eighth against Hever Bueno (4-4), who took the loss. Ethan Skender doubled home a run to make it 7-6 before Eguy Rosario's two-run single gave San Antonio the lead. Allen Cordoba then lined an RBI single to left and Kyle Overstreet lifted a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 10-7.

The Missions put up two more runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Olivier Basabe and Ethan Skender, ending the night with a 12-7 win.

Mason Fox (3-3) received the win, despite allowing a run in relief and Jose Quezada brought home his league-best 16th save of the season.

The RoughRiders and Missions battle in the second game of the series on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:05 p.m. Frisco turns to LHP Cody Bradford (2-0, 1.69) for the start against LHP Osvaldo Hernandez (4-8, 4.99).

Wednesday is Weiner Wednesday presented by Texas Chili Company with $2 hot dogs from 6-8 p.m. in addition to Kids Night presented by UT Southwestern Frisco.
