Tough Luck 13

MIDLAND, TEXAS-With the bats tired after a doubleheader on Sunday night, Midland and Frisco went 13 innings, but the RockHounds had the final say, using a walk-off RBI double by Anthony Aliotti to defeat the 'Riders 2-1 Monday night at Citibank Ballpark. It marked the second time in 2012 that the RoughRiders had gone 13-innings (the other was on April 26 vs. San Antonio).

The RoughRiders recorded their first tally in the third off 'Hounds starter Murphy Smith. Zach Zaneski reached following a leadoff walk, and moved to second on a fielder's choice by Jurickson Profar. Two batters later, Jared Hoying drove his teammate home with an RBI single to centerfield. Hoying would finish the game 2-4, his fifth multi-hit game over the seven-game roadtrip.

In the fourth the RockHounds tied the score at a run apiece. Working with runners at the corners, Barret Loux surrendered a double to David Freitas which plated Miles Head from third. On the two-bagger, Jeremy Barfield advanced to third, but Loux got a groundball to keep the game tied at one.

The RoughRiders had scoring chances in the sixth (runners at first and third), and again in the ninth (runner at second), but could not convert, to force extra innings.

Out of pitchers after 10 frames, the RoughRiders turned to Guilder Rodriguez (0-1) who blanked the RockHounds in the 11th and 12th innings, but ran out of luck in the 13th. After walking the leadoff hitter Tyler Ladendorf, Anthony Aliotti drove home his teammate with an RBI double to left to end the game.

In a valiant effort, Rodriguez suffered the loss allowing one run (game winner) over two innings. He walked one, struck out two, while the double to Aliotti was the only hit Rodriguez allowed. Also forced to use a position player, Midland's Leonardo Gil (1-0) picked up the win, tossing a scoreless 13th inning.

Following the game, the RoughRiders will head back to the metroplex before beginning their final regular season homestand of the year against Corpus Christ (four games) and Midland (three games). Nick Tepesch (6-3, 4.31),will make the start for the 'Riders on Tuesday, and will be opposed by Corpus Christi's Bobby Doran (5-2, 5.73).
