GreenJackets Announce 2nd Annual "World Series of Chili" Cook-Off

Fun, Food & Festival takes over Lake Olmstead Stadium

AUGUSTA, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets, single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, in conjunction with Camp Lakeside, are excited to announce the Second Annual "World Series of Chili" Cook-off presented by Spirit Communications to be held at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Saturday, October 22nd from 12-5pm.

Chili Cook Teams can sign up as individuals or as a business through Thursday, October 20th. Individual teams are $30, and business teams are $60. Each team must provide at least six gallons of chili, which must be cooked on site and without the use of electricity. For full rules and regulations see attached registration form.

Teams have signed up to participate so far include: ADP Smokey and the Bandit, Augusta Sports League, Augusta University Baseball - Red Hot Chili Preppers, BNI, Insurance Services of Augusta, Mass Media Marketing, Peak-a-Boom, and of course a GreenJackets Special Chili!

Event tickets are on sale now at the GreenJackets offices or by calling the GreenJackets Front Office at (706) 922-WINS (9467). Advanced adult tickets are $10 (includes four chili sample tickets) and children (4-12) tickets are $5 (includes two chili samples). Children 3 and under get in for FREE. This is a pet friendly event (dogs only).

"The GreenJackets are excited to grow this annual event and raise funds for a great organization in Camp Lakeside," stated GreenJackets General Manager Tom Denlinger. "We love hosting festivals at the ballpark and impacting the community, you won't want to miss this afternoon of FUN!"

A panel of local judges will be on hand to award prizes in four categories, with trophies provided thanks to Allsports Trophies & Gifts:

- Most Unique Chili

            - People's Choice Chili

            - Most Overall Creative Chili Stand

            - Best Overall Chili (Cash prize of $500 provided by Sysco & $50 Dick's Sporting Good's Gift Card)

In addition to the Chili Cook-Off, there will also be live music on the Spirit Communications Stage provided by DJ ZarBizarre, a Cornhole Tournament benefiting Camp Lakeside($100 for winning team), 50/50 Raffle, college football viewing station, inflatables for the kids (bounce house, obstacle course) and much more. The Ahmen Korner Bar & Grill will be open serving cold beverages (Beer and Soda) and ballpark fare.

The Family YMCA's Camp Lakeside, a 100-acre camp property on Lake Thurmond, has been a historic camp facility for many years in the CSRA and reopened as a day camp in 2016 and will start overnight camp operations in 2017. The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta and the Children's Hospital of Georgia have partnered to create an accessible camp facility for children of all abilities to enjoy camp fun. With a 158 year legacy of service in the C.S.R.A., the non-profit Family YMCA of Greater Augusta offers programs and services at 66 CSRA program centers, including 10 program and wellness facilities, one full-time child development center, and Camp Lakeside, a 100-acre camp located on Lake Thurmond. The Family Y's Prime Time program provides after-school care at 32 Richmond, McDuffie and Aiken County elementary schools and 15 summer camp sites. The Head Start Pre-K Program operates 7 facilities in Aiken and Barnwell Counties.
