Augusta, GA-The Augusta GreenJackets fell short in a one run contest for the third game in a row in a 4-3 loss to the Kannapolis Intimidators Thursday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The loss dropped the GreenJackets to 11-22 on the season.
The GreenJackets led 3-2 going into the top of the sixth. Micker Adolfo began that inning with a double for Kannapolis. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Remillard. Antonio Rodriguez singled him in to tie the game at three. Rodriguez advanced to second on a groundout and then came in to score on a single by Brandon Dulin putting Kannapolis on top for good.
Each team got dominant performances out of their bullpen. For the GreenJackets, Sandro Cabrera struck out four in the seventh and eighth innings in relief of starter Matt Solter who went six innings and allowed four runs off of seven hits. Cesar Yanez followed with a scoreless ninth to keep the GreenJackets within striking distance.
For the Intimidators, Alex Katz came on in relief of starter Alec Hansen with two outs in the sixth and a runner on second. He got them out of the jam and then pitched a scoreless seventh. Ben Wright and Mike Morrison also threw a scoreless inning each to close out the game.
After Kannapolis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, Jacob Heyward led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to even the score. The Intimidators added another run in the fourth. The GreenJackets answered again in the bottom of the frame when Sandro Fabian reached first on a dropped third strike. Kelvin Beltre followed with a double to put Fabian on third. Skyler Ewing hit another double to score both Fabian and Beltre, giving the GreenJackets the lead.
The GreenJackets will be back in action Friday night for the third and final game of the series with Kannapolis. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm with the gates opening at 6:00pm. It is Dr. Rogers and Andrews Night and the fourth Reading Program night of the season. It is also Ladies Night presented by The Walking Company, Tin Lizzy's Cantina, Brooks Haven Floral and Flowers LLC, Palm Beach Tan, Pure Barre Augusta, The Swank Company, Barefoot Wine and Refreshers, and Oliviana Ristorante. The first 1,000 fans into the stadium will receive a Phoenix Printing Calendar presented by Phoenix Printing. Kids 12 and under will be able to run the bases after the game.
Melvin Adon (0-3, 4.87) will start on the mound for the GreenJackets against Chris Comito (0-0, 4.82) for the Intimidators.
