RiverDogs Pull Away from GreenJackets

Four Run Ninth is Difference in the Game

Augusta, GA-The Charleston RiverDogs used a four run ninth to turn a low scoring pitcher's duel into a rout with a 6-2 victory over the GreenJackets Sunday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The loss snapped the GreenJackets five game winning streak.
For the GreenJackets, Stephen Woods Jr. kept the RiverDogs off home plate in his four innings of work despite walking five including three in the firth to load the bases. He struck out four and gave up only two hits. Alexander Vargas held the GreenJackets to just three hits in six shutout innings in his start for the RiverDogs.
With one out in the top of the sixth, Vince Conde hit a solo home run to put Charleston up 1-0. Oswaldo Cabrera singled to lead off the following inning. With one out, Isiah Gilliam singled to advance him to second. With two outs, Dom Thompson-Williams hit a double to score Cabrera and make it 2-0 RiverDogs.
With the score 2-1 in the ninth, the RiverDogs began to add insurance when Brandon Wagner singled to lead off the inning. Gilliam tripled him home making it 3-1. Angel Aguilar then added a two-run home run to make it 5-1. With two on and two out, Diego Castillo added an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-1.
Trailing 2-0, the GreenJackets added a run in the bottom of the eighth to trim the deficit in half. Sandro Fabian hit a one out solo home run the following inning to make it 6-2.
The GreenJackets will be back in action Monday night against the RiverDogs for the final game of the season and the final game ever at Lake Olmstead Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm with the gates opening at 5:00pm. The Last Game Celebration is presented by WRDW News 12 WAGT 26. It is also day four of Fan Appreciation Weekend presented by Augusta University Health featuring Post-Game Labor Day Fireworks presented by Kenneth S. Nugent PC, a Pre-Game concert by McKenna Hydrick, and one lucky artist getting to play the national anthem as part of Turner's Keyboards Piano Series.
D.J. Myers (2-8, 4.60) will start on the mound for the GreenJackets against Nick Green (8-8, 4.40) for the RiverDogs.
