LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – JR Ritchie set a new Gwinnett single-game record with 15 strikeouts and Rowdy Tellez clobbered a game-winning pinch-hit grand slam as the Stripers (32-31, 70-67) stunned the Charlotte Knights (32-31, 74-64) 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Gwinnett Field. The Stripers split the series 3-3.

Decisive Plays: The Knights struck first with a Tim Elko solo home run (5) in the first inning. The Stripers quickly tied things up in the bottom of the first with a Jordan Groshans RBI infield single. With the game tied 1-1, Charlotte's Jake Cave launched a solo homer (4) to retake the lead at 2-1. Ritchie locked in from there, striking out eight of the next 12 batters as he surpassed his own single-game career high (11) and Gwinnett’s previous single-game high (13). Gwinnett still trailed 2-1, however, after seven. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth, pinch-hitter Rowdy Tellez jumped on the first pitch from Jairo Iriarte (BS, 2) and deposited a grand slam into the Charlotte bullpen for the first Stripers lead of the game, 5-2. In the ninth, Ricky Vanasco (W, 6-1) and James Karinchak combined to close the door.

Key Contributors: Ritchie had a career day (6.2 innings, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 15 SO) in a no-decision. Tellez (1-for-1, homer, 4 RBIs) cranked the game-winning grand slam off the bench. For Charlotte, Elko (2-for-4, homer, RBI) had the only multi-hit performance.

Noteworthy: Ritchie’s 15 strikeouts marked the most ever in a game by a Gwinnett pitcher, shattering the previous record of 13 shared by Bryse Wilson (August 15, 2018 vs. Louisville) and Spencer Strider (April 10, 2025 at Norfolk). The Stripers also tied a team record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game with 18 (3x, last: April 10, 2025 at Norfolk). Tellez's grand slam was Gwinnett’s first pinch-hit homer of any kind since Phillip Ervin on September 3, 2021 vs. Memphis.
