'Gades get swept for a second time in a doubleheader this week

Wappingers Falls, NY – The Hudson Valley Renegades were swept by the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in a doubleheader on Saturday night at Heritage Financial Park, losing 2-0 in the opener and 14-6 in the nightcap.

This was the fourth doubleheader played by the Renegades in the last 12 days. It is the second time this season, and the second time this week, that the Renegades have been swept in a doubleheader. Of the seven doubleheaders that they have played this season, the Renegades have swept two, have split three, and have been swept twice.

Game 1 starter Bryce Cunningham threw the Renegades’ fourth complete game of the season. It’s the first time since 1995 that Renegades pitching has thrown four complete games in a single season.

The Renegades have lost back-to-back games in which their starters threw complete games.

Hudson Valley hitters grabbed three hits through two innings in game one. However, Jersey Shore pitching combined to retire the last 14 Renegades it faced and allow just one base runner from innings three on.

Jersey Shore struck out nine Renegades in game one and 10 in game two. The BlueClaws have struck out 53 batters this series.

After the second inning of game one, Jersey Shore batters got just one hit.

The BlueClaws scored eight runs on seven hits in the first inning of game two and five runs on five hits in the third inning. The BlueClaws batted around in both of those innings.

Hudson Valley is 7-10 overall against Jersey Shore, 5-6 at Heritage Financial Park, and 1-4 in the second half.

The Renegades are 17-18 in the second half of the season, falling below .500 in the second half for the first time since they fell 5-4 at Rome to kick off the second half.

RHP Bryce Cunningham (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) completed seven innings for the second time in his professional career, and the first time since his third career start on 4/19/25 against Wilmington.

Cunningham threw his first complete game of his professional career.

Cunningham has allowed two earned runs in four of his last five outings.

Cunningham didn’t walk a batter for the second time this season. The first time came on 6/9 vs. Jersey Shore.

Cunningham struck out five batters for just the second time in his last six starts.

RHP Luis Serna (0.2 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HBP, 1 HR) matched his career-high eight runs allowed in 0.1 IP.

This is the first time in Serna’s career that he hasn’t completed the first inning in a start.

His last sub-1.0 IP outing was on 9/17/21 with the DSL Yankees.
