Joshua Palacios Hits the Game-Tying and Game-Winning RBI in Indy’s Extra-Innings Victory

Indians scored four unanswered runs in come-from-behind win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Joshua Palacios orchestrated the Indianapolis Indians’ second extra-inning victory of the series over the Nashville Sounds in 10 innings, 4-3, on Saturday night at First Horizon Park. The first-place Indians now sit 1.5 games atop the second-half International League standings.

With Enmanuel Valdez waiting as the automatic runner at second base in the 10th inning, Palacios shot a line-drive RBI single off right-hander Blake Holub (L, 8-8) to push the Indians (28-16, 59-60) towards their 26th comeback win of the season.

The Sounds (21-23, 64-55) opened the contest’s scoring, 3-0, after taking advantage of defensive blunders by Indianapolis in the fourth inning. With men on first and third, backstop Cameron Barstad attempted to catch the runner stealing second, but an error on the throw allowed the ball to get away. Nashville’s Jeferson Quero broke for home from third base to score on the error, 1-0. Later in the frame, Ethan Murray hit a fly ball to center field with two on and two out. But Mitch Jebb misjudged the ball, and it dropped into deep center field behind him. The two Sounds runners scored, 3-0, as Murray slid into third with a triple.

Indianapolis scored twice in the sixth inning. Palacios drew a bases-loaded walk on five pitches to plate Enmanuel Valdez, 3-1. Nick Cimillo followed and grounded into a double play, but Johnathan Rodríguez scored on the play to pull the Indians within one, 3-2.

Palacios tied the game, 8-8, in the top of the eighth inning, rocketing an RBI double past a leaping Jacob Hurtubise and off the center field wall.

Evan Sisk (W, 2-0) threw two perfect innings in the eighth and ninth for the win. Michael Darrell-Hicks (S, 3) emerged from a bases-loaded 10th inning unscathed to log his 10th consecutive scoreless outing with Indianapolis since May 25 (across two stints).

The two clubs will battle for the series finale victory with Indians LHP Connor Wietgrefe (4-3, 3.06) facing Nashville’s RHP Tyson Hardin (3-4, 5.21). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET.
