Michael Darrell-Hicks Named Indians August Player of the Month

The right-handed pitcher did not allow a run across nine appearances in the month

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Indians today named right-handed pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks as their August Player of the Month. Darrell-Hicks has not allowed a run across nine outings to date this month (11.1ip) with 14 strikeouts and a .154 opponent average (6-for-39). INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Indians today named right-handed pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks as their August Player of the Month. Darrell-Hicks has not allowed a run across nine outings to date this month (11.1ip) with 14 strikeouts and a .154 opponent average (6-for-39). The right-handed reliever joins outfielder Ronny Simon (April), right-handed pitchers Antwone Kelly (May) and José Urquidy (June) and left-handed pitcher Connor Wietgrefe (July) as recipients of the team’s monthly awards this season.

Darrell-Hicks, 28, highlighted the month by escaping bases loaded jams in extra innings twice in the same series. On Aug. 13 at Nashville, he tossed a scoreless ninth inning to force extra innings. Following a walk issued to Blake Burke to begin the 10th frame, Akil Baddoo hit a single off the top of the wall in center field, just inches away from a walk-off homer. The runners had to tag on the play as the Sounds were unable to plate a run. Darrell-Hicks then induced back-to-back pop ups from Jeferson Quero and Darrien Miller and set down Ethan Murray swinging to win the game.

On Aug. 15, Darrell-Hicks entered in the 10th inning and opened with consecutive outs. An intentional walk to MLB rehabber Sal Frelick and a walk to Brock Wilken loaded the bases. The right-hander then induced a flyout from Burke to pick up the save and end the game.

Darrell-Hicks has logged 13 consecutive scoreless outings across two stints with the Indians dating back to May 25. In this span, he has struck out 19 batters across 15.2 innings, holding opponents to a .170 average (9-for-53). In 31 games with the club in 2026 he owns a 1-0 record, 2.91 ERA (11er/34.0ip), 39 strikeouts, .200 opponent average (24-for-120) and three saves.

The Parkersburg, W.Va. native joined the Pittsburgh organization when he was claimed on waivers from Los Angeles (AL) on June 13, 2025.

The Indians continue their homestand at Victory Field tonight for a 6:35 PM ET matchup against the Columbus Clippers (Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians).
