Fausnaught Sharp As Claws Take Opener From Cyclones

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Braeden Fausnaught struck out a career high nine over six innings and the BlueClaws topped Brooklyn 3-1 on Tuesday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Braeden Fausnaught struck out a career high nine over six innings and the BlueClaws topped Brooklyn 3-1 on Tuesday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

The win puts the BlueClaws at 6-4 to start the season while the Cyclones fall to 4-6. Jersey Shore is 3-1 in four home games and two games over .500 for the first time since starting 2-0.

Fausnaught struck out nine over his six scoreless innings. He matched the longest outing of his career while setting a new career high with his nine strikeouts.

Mateo Gil's home run in the top of the third inning opened the scoring.

Brooklyn's lead didn't last long. Leandro Pineda went deep in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at one. It was his first home run of the season and the 15th of his career.

The BlueClaws took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Emaarion Boyd scored on a groundout by Justin Crawford. They added a run on an RBI single from Otto Kemp in the bottom of the eighth.

Charles King got the last three outs for his second save while Wesley Moore and Nate Karaffa each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Crawford, Boyd, and Kemp all had two hits for Jersey Shore.

The teams continue their series on Wednesday night at 6:35 pm. RHP Starlyn Castillo starts for Jersey Shore.
