Knapp's Four Hits Lead Claws to 6-3 Win
SALISBURY, MD - Andrew Knapp had his first four-hit game of the year while Willians Astudillo and Dylan Cozens each drove in two runs as the BlueClaws topped Delmarva 6-3 on Thursday night at Perdue Stadium.
Lakewood (16-25/43-67) and Delmarva (18-23/56-54) have now split the first two games of their four-game series.
The BlueClaws scored twice in the first inning on RBI singles by Dylan Cozens and Willians Astudillo. They added three in the third inning on an RBI single by Astudillo, and a two-run single by Malquin Canelo, whose hit came on the 10th pitch of a long at bat against Delmarva starter Mitch Horacek.
Horacek (5-10), who had been 3-0 against Lakewood, took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings pitched. He came out after Dylan Cozens' second RBI single of the game in the top of the 4th inning.
Lakewood starter Yacksel Rios (5-0) gave up two runs/one earned over five innings to earn the win. Joey DeNato threw two scoreless innings of relief and the left-hander picked off a runner for the second straight outing. Frank Rivas gave up one run in the 8th and Dan Child threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his second save with the BlueClaws.
In addition to Knapp's four hits, Willians Astudillo had three for the BlueClaws, while Cozens and Malquin Canelo each had two. Knapp scored three of the six Lakewood runs in the win.
The series continues on Friday night at 7:05. Lakewood RHP Ranfi Casimiro (2-9) opposes Delmarva LHP Bennett Parry (0-0).
