Late Home Run Sinks BlueClaws on Thursday

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Luis Curbelo broke a 2-2 tie with an eighth inning home run and Winston-Salem topped the BlueClaws 3-2 on Thursday night at Truist Stadium.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Luis Curbelo broke a 2-2 tie with an eighth inning home run and Winston-Salem topped the BlueClaws 3-2 on Thursday night at Truist Stadium.

The Dash (29-40) have now taken three straight from Jersey Shore (29-40) to open their six-game series. The BlueClaws fell to 11-games under .500 for the first time this season.

Curbelo's home run came off Tom Sutera (0-2) and was the second straight game in which he's homered.

Winston-Salem opened the scoring on an RBI single by Curbelo in the fourth. Sal Gozzo tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.

Alex Destino's RBI single gave the Dash the lead back in the bottom of the sixth. That was a short-lived lead, as Jonathan Guzman tied the game with an RBI triple in the top of the seventh before Curbelo's home run in the eighth.

Cooper Bradford (2-2) threw a scoreless eighth for Winston-Salem and earned the win.

Jersey Shore starter Dominic Pipkin gave up two runs over 5.2 innings, walking one and striking out four. Dash starter Davis Martin went five innings and allowed one run with five strikeouts and no walks.

Jhailyn Ortiz and Jonathan Guzman each had two hits for Jersey Shore.

The BlueClaws and Dash continue their series on Friday night at 7:00 pm. The BlueClaws return home on Tuesday to start a 12-game homestand against Brooklyn and Aberdeen.
