LAKEWOOD, NJ - Nick Maton delivered the BlueClaws fifth walk-off win of the year with an RBI single in the 10th to give the BlueClaws a 7-6 win over Greensboro on Monday night at FirstEnergy Park.
Maton brought in Jake Scheiner with the winning run after the BlueClaws tied the game on a Matt Vierling double-play groundball. Both runs were charged to Michael Mertz (1-4), though only one was earned.
The BlueClaws (19-11/60-39) won for the ninth time in the last 12 games in taking the first of four from the Grasshoppers (14-16/48-51).
Trailing 5-2, the BlueClaws tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Scheiner, who had three hits, drove in two with a triple and Jhailyn Ortiz tied the game with an RBI double off Ryan McKay.
Zach Warren, who gave up one unearned run in two innings, earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Scheiner ended the night 3-4 with three runs and three RBIs, in addition to becoming just the sixth BlueClaw in team history with two triples in a game. Quincy Nieporte had two hits in the win for Lakewood.
After Tristan Pompey homered in the first inning, the BlueClaws answered with two in the bottom of the first. Simon Muzziotti and Jake Scheiner hit back to back triples to tie the game. Scheiner then came home on a groundout by Matt Vierling.
Greensboro tied the game in the fourth on a groundout by Harrison DiNicola, bringing in Isael Soto who doubled to lead off the inning.
Lakewood starter Gustavo Armas and Greensboro starter Trevor Rogers each gave up two runs over six innings but did not factor in the decision.
The teams continue their series on Tuesday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Julian Garcia (3-2) starts for Lakewood opposite LHP Sean Guenther (2-0).
