INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Zach Vincej's two-out, go-ahead RBI double in the ninth inning propelled the Louisville Bats (51-77) to a 4-3 victory over the Indianapolis Indians (70-58) on Tuesday night at Victory Field.
After the Indians tie the game at three-all in the bottom of the eighth, Vincej put the Bats back on top with his second RBI two-bagger of the night, helping the Bats even the series at one apiece.
Louisville struck first on Tyler Goeddel's RBI double in the third inning that scored Hernan Iribarren. Goeddel is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak, batting .417 (15-for-36) during that stretch.
Louisville tacked on one more in the inning, as Alex Blandino's sacrifice fly gave the Bats a 2-0 lead.
Kevin Newman led off the bottom half of the frame with a triple to the gap in right-center and later came around to score on an RBI groundout, cutting the Indians' deficit in half.
The Bats got that run back in the fourth inning courtesy of Vincej, whose RBI double made it a 3-1 ballgame.
Indianapolis appeared to be on the verge of a huge inning in the fifth but instead managed only one run off Jackson Stephens while leaving the bases loaded for the second time on the night.
Stephens (7-8, 4.92) allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings. It was the right-hander's team-leading 11th quality start of the season.
Jimmy Herget closed the game out with a clean ninth inning and earned his second win in a Louisville uniform.
The Bats will look to take control of the series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Louisville will start right-hander Luke Farrell (0-2, 19.06) while Indianapolis will counter with right-hander Tyler Eppler (6-8, 5.29).
