Mashers crush Indians, 8-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (59-80) defeated the Indianapolis Indians (65-74) by an 8-2 score Sunday evening at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats rebranded as the "Mashers" for the penultimate game of the season as 11,564 fans came out to the ballpark.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (59-80) defeated the Indianapolis Indians (65-74) by an 8-2 score Sunday evening at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats rebranded as the "Mashers" for the penultimate game of the season as 11,564 fans came out to the ballpark.

The Bats' offense burst out of the gate, while starting pitcher Tejay Antone (4-8, 4.65) was stellar once again. He allowed a pair of runs on three hits in 7.0 innings of work, walking none while tying a career-high 10 strikeouts. The righty threw 101 pitches and 68 strikes, now toting a 1.57 ERA over his last 4 starts.
Louisville's offense gave Antone plenty of run support en route to his second straight win, scoring three runs in the first and a pair in the second. Chadwick Tromp's two-run single got the scoring started for Louisville, while Narciso Crook scored on a Blake Trahan RBI single later in the inning to give the Bats a 3-0 advantage.
Louisville extended its lead to 5-1 in the second inning when Christian Colón brought Antone home, followed by Crook's RBI single that scored José Peraza. Antone helped his own cause by smashing a double to reach base earlier in the inning, while Peraza continued his excellence since being optioned. The left fielder went 3-for-5, now batting .615 (8-for-13) in his three games with Louisville this season.
The scoring stalled into the sixth inning, when Indianapolis scored but Louisville immediately answered in the bottom of the frame, extending its lead to 7-2 and later 8-2 in the seventh.
Tromp joined Peraza with a three-hit game, while Brian O'Grady recorded his 30th double of the season. O'Grady joins Luis Robert in the Chicago White Sox organization as the only minor leaguers this season with at least 30 doubles, 28 home runs and 20 stolen bases.
On Monday afternoon at 1 p.m., Louisville will finish its 2019 season against the Indianapolis Indians at Louisville Slugger Field. Left-hander Eric Stout (2-1, 6.63) will start Louisville's final game, with right-hander James Marvel (6-0, 2.91) set to go for the Indians.
