The house always wins in Las Vegas and the saying remained true during the Aces road trip to Sin City this week. Reno lost the third and final game of the series tonight by a score of 18-4. The Aces totaled just four hits on the night, each of them doubles. Down by one run, Wyatt Mathisen doubled to start the inning to give Reno runners in scoring position with no outs. Outfielder Jamie Westbrook followed with a double of his own, scoring Mathisen, and tying the game at one. Starter Matt Koch blanked Las Vegas in the bottom of the third but saw things get a little out of hand in the bottom half of the fourth. The Aviators plated six runs on five hits and two homers to take a 7-1 lead. Koch was replaced by Right-hander Joey Krehbiel after allowing a three-run blast in the bottom of the fifth. Krehbiel was tagged for a two-run homer before ending Las Vegas' five-run outburst. Mathisen came on to pitch in the bottom of the eighth and Las Vegas played home run derby. Mathisen got three back with one swing of the bat but the comeback effort fell short. The loss brings Reno to a record of 59-69 as they head back to the Biggest Little City for a four-game series against the Salt Lake Bees. First pitch tomorrow at Greater Nevada Field is slated for 7:05 p.m.
