The Rochester Red Wings took down the Durham Bulls, 5-1, Friday night, earning their first back-to-back wins over Tampa’s top affiliate since 5/30-31/2018. RHP Joan Adon worked his second-straight quality start with Rochester in his first start since 6/30, while DH Matt Adams launched his 12th homer of the season as part of a multi-hit day at the plate.

The Red Wings got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, striking first for the third-straight game. 1B Jack Dunn launched a one out single into right field that plated C Drew Millas, Dunn’s first go-ahead RBI of the season with the Wings. Rochester added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, extending their lead to 2-0 after CF Derek Hill drove in Millas with an RBI single.

The Wings remained in front with a 2-0 lead for the next two innings until the bottom of the sixth inning when LF Jake Alu ripped a two-RBI single, plating Dunn and SS Jeter Downs to give Rochester a 4-0 advantage. After six shutout innings, Durham broke through in the top of the seventh, cutting the deficit to 4-1 thanks to a solo home run from SS Tristan Gray. Rochester responded in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 5-1 via a solo home run from DH Matt Adams, his first long ball since 6/24 against Omaha.

The Wings allowed just one hit in the ensuing three innings after Gray’s solo home run, holding on to win for the second straight game to take a 3-1 series lead. Rochester closed out the win by retiring the final five batters and finished allowing just four hits, their fewest since 5/14 against WOR.

RHP Joan Adon (3-5, 4.46) returned to the mound Friday night, starting his first game for the Wings since 6/30. The righty worked six innings, allowing just two hits while not allowing a run to earn his second-straight quality start and fifth overall this season. RHP Daniel Mengden and LHP Tim Cate combined to work the ensuing 1.1 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while walking a pair. RHP Andres Machado completed the final 1.2 innings of scoreless work on the mound without allowing a hit to earn his first save since 4/28.

DH Matt Adams earned Friday night’s Diamond Pro Player of the Game honors after he went 2-for-4 with a home run and single. The long ball marked Adams’ first since 6/24 and helped him finish with his 17th multi-hit game of the season, which is the second-most behind LF Jake Alu on the team.

The Wings finished 2-for-3 on ABS Challenges tonight, while Durham went 1-for-3.

Rochester will go for the series win tomorrow night in the fifth game against the Bulls. LHP Anthony Banda is set to make the start for the Wings, with RHP Cooper Criswell on the bump for Durham. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m.
