Wings Stifle Storm Chasers in Sunday’s Series Finale

Looking to win back-to-back games and take five of six games of the series, the Rochester Red Wings (31-20, 76-48) did so against the Omaha Storm Chasers (24-25, 57-66), cruising to a 9-0 victory. 1B Yohandy Morales went 3-for-5 with two singles and four RBI, including his 24th home run of the season. 3B Cayden Wallace hit a three-run insurance blast in the ninth, while CF Trey Lipscomb extended his International League-leading hitting streak to 19 games. On the mound, LHP Jared Simpson continues to dominate as an opener, bringing his impressive ERA down to 1.02.

After two quiet opening innings, the Red Wings delivered the first few runs of the evening in the third after RF Leandro Pineda sent a single to center field, followed by an error on a pickoff attempt that moved him to second. Shortly after, SS Seaver King shot an RBI single to center field, allowing Pineda to score. King advanced to second base on a wild pitch in the ensuing at-bat. Then, Yohandy Morales smashed a two-run homer to left-center field, giving Rochester an early 3-0 lead.

The following three innings proved to be scoreless before Rochester broke through in the top of the seventh. 2B Liover Peguero reached first on a fielder's choice before swiping second base. Leandro Pineda then singled to left and advanced to third on a throwing error, bringing in Peguero and giving the Red Wings a 4-0 lead. Seaver King drew a walk before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. Yohandy Morales followed with a single, bringing in Pineda and King as Rochester extended its lead to 6-0.

Leading off the Rochester ninth, LF Phillip Glasser drew a walk before advancing to second on Trey Lipscomb's single to extend his hitting streak. After a strikeout, Cayden Wallace crushed a three-run home run 439 feet with an exit velocity of 108.3 mph, putting the Red Wings ahead 9-0.

With their last chance to come back in the bottom of the ninth, the Storm Chasers grounded out twice and struck out once, completing the 9-0 shutout victory for the Red Wings.

Jared Simpson got the start for Rochester, pitching 3.0 innings and logging two strikeouts, while allowing no runs and only one hit. RHP Riley Cornelio replaced Simpson in the fourth. The Colorado native also did not allow a run, let up only one hit, and walked one batter in 2.0 innings of work to earn the win. RHP Yovanny Cruz came in to pitch in the sixth. In 1.0 inning, Cruz allowed one hit, no runs, and walked one batter. RHP Luis Perales replaced Cruz in the seventh inning and pitched 2.0 innings and walked one batter while striking out three. RHP Jack Sinclair closed the series for Rochester with a hitless ninth while adding a strikeout.

The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is 1B Yohandy Morales. The 24-year-old from Florida had three hits in the evening, resulting in four RBI. In the third, Morales blasted a 414-foot two-run homer that set the tone early for Rochester's productive offensive outing, the first home run against Omaha in his career. The Miami University alum now has 12 three-hit games, 24 homers, and 74 RBI in his 2026 campaign.

Rochester will have Monday off as they travel back home for a six-game series against their I-90 rivals to the west, the Buffalo Bisons, as they look to win three in a row and take sole possession of first place in the International League second half race. The first pitch will be at 6:45 p.m.on Tuesday.
