Plates Serve A Walk-Off Win In Game Three Against Bisons

The Rochester Plates (33-21, 78-49) walked off the Buffalo Bisons (28-25, 63-65) 7-6 in a back-and-forth affair at ESL Ballpark on Thursday night. 3B Trey Lipscomb hit his 29th round-tripper of the season in a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, while LF Phillip Glasser iced the game with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, marking Rochester’s seventh walk-off of the campaign.

After two quiet opening innings, the Plates found home plate first after a series of events in the third inning that began with a walk to 2B Liover Peguero. Shortly after, the red-hot SS Seaver King logged an infield single, allowing Peguero to reach second. Following King’s hit, 1B Yohandy Morales smashed an RBI single to center field, sending Peguero home and King to second. Rochester went on to load the bases after 3B Trey Lipscomb reached first on catcher interference. Time was not wasted for the opportunity to be seized as DH Cayden Wallace blasted an RBI single to right field, allowing King and Morales to score, making it 3-0 Plates entering the fourth.

The Bisons responded in the ensuing half-inning after LF Sean Keys shot a sharp single to right field, followed by a walk to RF Yohendrick Piñango. After a mound visit, 3B Nick Goodwin reached first on a fielding error, loading the bases for Buffalo. A second throwing error then led to 1B Peyton Williams reaching first, Keys and Piñango scoring, and Goodwin reaching third. Shortly after, DH Carlos Mendoza was hit by a pitch, sending Williams to second and loading the bases. Following a pitching change, rehabbing 2B Josh Smith drew a walk, allowing Goodwin to jog home for the equalizing run. Rochester avoided further damage and got out of the top of the fourth, with the score tied at three runs apiece.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Plates regained the lead after LF Phillip Glasser sent a single to left field, followed by Yohandy Morales logging a single of his own to center field that put runners on the corners. Following a mound visit, Trey Lipscomb blasted a three-run homer to right field, his 29th of the season, to put Rochester in front, 6-3.

The Bisons responded in kind at the top of the sixth. The first three Buffalo batters reached base to start the frame on two singles and a four-pitch free pass, before CF Isamel Mungia chased a runner home on a fielder's choice to make it a two-run game. With still no one out, Buffalo kept chipping away, scoring two more to tie the game, with a lone run coming in on a pair of groundouts off the bats of Josh Smith and Sean Keys, knotting the game up at six apiece.

After a couple of scoreless innings, the Plates finally broke through. After a leadoff single from Pegeuro, who advanced into scoring position on a groundout, which set up Phillip Glasser to bring him home on a single up the middle past the outstretched glove of the Buffalo second baseman, putting an end to a three-hour game and giving Rochester a 7-6 win.

The Nationals' No. 14 prospect Jack Cebert made his Triple-A debut on the mound to kick things off. The 24-year-old righty put in 3.0 innings of work and allowed two runs on four hits, walked a batter, and struck out two. RHP Riley Cornelio replaced Cebert in the fourth and did not allow a run or hit, walked one batter, and struck out four in 2.0 innings. Southpaw Matt Krook came in the sixth and threw 16 pitches before being replaced by RHP Eddy Yean. In 1.0 inning, Yean threw 13 pitches and did not allow an earned run. RHP Kyle Nicolas replaced Yean in the seventh. Nicolas allowed one hit and no runs, while also walking one batter. RHP Gus Varland came in to pitch in the eighth for 1.0 inning and set down the order on 15 pitches. RHP Connor Van Scoyoc replaced Varland in the ninth and closed things out with a hitless frame.

The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is LF Phillip Glasser. The 26-year-old from Ohio found the bases three times Thursday evening with two hits and a walk drawn. The former Indiana Hoosier drove in a single to center field in the ninth inning that delivered Rochester’s seventh walk-off of the season.

Rochester will look to make it three wins in a row on Friday night when they send RHP Issac Lyon to the hill to make his Triple-A debut. Opposing him for Buffalo will be RHP Richard Gallardo. First pitch is slated for 6:45 p.m.
