Red Wings Rally Falls Short Against RailRiders Late Wednesday Night

On a rain-soaked Wednesday night, after a three-hour delay shortened the game to seven innings, the Rochester Red Wings (38-27, 83-55) logged six hits in a 2-1 loss against the Scranton/WB RailRiders (37-26, 74-63). The trio SS Seaver King, LF Trey Lipscomb, and CF Sam Petersen each doubled for the Red Wings only extra-base hits of the night.

SS Max Schuemann started things off with a bang for the RailRiders in the top of the first, connecting on a first-pitch sinker and sending it 413 feet and over the left-center field wall for a solo homer. Rochester was able to escape further damage despite a single and a walk following the homer, and send things to the bottom of the first with the score still at 1-0.

Scranton/WB added a run with two outs in the second. CF Duke Ellis beat out an infield single to shortstop and stole second before LF Jarred Kelenic drove him home with a single to center.

Both teams traded zeroes in for the next four frames, and the RailRiders came to the plate in the top of the seventh with their 2-0 lead intact. 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. worked a one-out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch two batters later, before Duke Ellis connected on a sweeper and sent it over the right field wall for a two-run homer to double the Scranton/WB lead to 4-0.

Rochester came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh in search of four runs to keep the contest alive. 1B Riley Adams walked to kick things off, and moved to second on a Leandro Pineda single. Following a pair of strikeouts and down to their final out, CF Sam Petersen bounced a high chopper that skirted through into the outfield for a double. Adams scored on the play and Pineda moved to third, putting the Red Wings on the board. A flyout ended things in the following at-bat, solidifying a 4-1 Rochester defeat.

RHP Jack Cebert took the ball for Rochester to kick things off Wednesday night. The Florida native logged 3.0 innings, allowing two earned on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Rehabbing RHP Josiah Gray took the mound in the fourth for his first appearance with the Red Wings in 2026, and tossed 1.0 perfect inning with a strikeout. Fellow rehabbing LHP Richard Lovelady followed with a perfect inning of his own in the fifth. RHP Erick Mejia manned the sixth, making his first appearance with the club since June 25. The Dominican Republic native turned in a scoreless frame on one hit. RHP Jake Bird finished things off, allowing two earned on one hit with a strikeout and a walk in the seventh.

LF Trey Lipscomb is the Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game Wednesday night. The Tennessee product finished 1-for-3 with a double, his 29th of the season. He is now one two-bagger shy of becoming the first Red Wing since Steve Bilko in 1949 to log 30 homers and 30 doubles in a single season.

Rochester and Scranton/WB will meet again Thursday night for game three of their six-game set, knotted at one game apiece. RHP Isaac Lyon will take the ball for the Red Wings against RailRiders RHP Elmer Rodriguez. The first pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
